సర్వావిధ అలంకృతుడై తరలి వెళ్ళాడు అని శివపురాణంలో చెప్పబడింది. ఎంత అద్భుతమయిన వర్ణనో కదా! కేవలం కృష్ణుడి అలంకరణలో వినే కస్తూరిని శివుడు కూడా వాడటం జరిగిందని ఈ శ్లోకం ద్వారా తెలుస్తోంది! “కస్తూరి తిలక తిద్దువె కాలిగె గెజ్జె కట్టువె కాశీ పీతాంబర కొడువె కణ్ణిగె కాడిగె హచ్చువె” అంటూ ఆ విష్ణువుని భజనలో కూడా కస్తూరిదే ప్రథమ స్థానం. కస్తూరిని శని, రాహు గ్రహాలకు; రోహిణి, మూల, భరణి నక్షత్రాలకు హోమద్రవ్యము క్రింద వాడవలెనని శ్రీ విష్ణుధర్మోత్తర పురాణంలో చెప్పబడింది. అలానే మణిద్వీపంలో కస్తూరి మృగాలు సంచరిస్తూ నిత్యం పరిమళాలను వెదచల్లుతూ ఉంటాయి అని మణిద్వీప వర్ణన (దేవీ భాగవతం) లో కూడా ఉంది.
